Shop volunteers needed
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Volunteers are needed at the Op Shop, operated by parishioners at St. John's Episcopal Church, 1105 Quarrier St.
Manna Meal has benefited from the shop by being able to help some who eat at the Charleston soup kitchen by providing needed items such as shoes and coats.

Rite Aid gives to MDA
CAMP HILL, Pa. -- On Monday, the Rite Aid Foundation announced a $4,000 grant to the West Virginia Chapter of the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
The association has offices in Charleston and a clinic in Morgantown. The funding will be used to provide scholarships so that low-income children across West Virginia can attend the MDA summer camp program, which offers a fun and safe outdoor experience complete with horseback riding, swimming, adaptive sports, arts and crafts, camp dances and more.
"The Rite Aid Foundation has long supported the Muscular Dystrophy Association," said Gayle Rife, manager of the foundation. "We love hearing about all the fun and learning that goes on at the camps and the heartfelt thank-you notes from parents and other regular caregivers who get a much-needed rest."

Free diabetes education
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Free diabetes education classes for people with Medicare, their families and caregivers will take place in August in Cabell, Fayette, Greenbrier, Jackson, Logan, Monroe, Nicholas, Wayne and Webster counties.
Nurses, community health workers and volunteers trained by the West Virginia Medical Institute will cover topics that include managing every aspect of diabetes, from nutrition to exercise to important tests and exams.
Here is the schedule:
Cabell County: 12:20 to 2 p.m. Aug. 12, 19 and 26 at Salt Rock Senior Center, 5490 W.Va. 10, Salt Rock.
Fayette County: 10 to 11:30 a.m. Aug. 13, 20 and 27 at Meadow Bridge Senior Center, W.Va. 20.
Greenbrier County: 6:30 to 8 p.m. Aug. 13, 20 and 27 at the fellowship hall, Wild Meadow Baptist Church, 2817 Pocahontas Trail, White Sulphur Springs.
