CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The PalliativeCare Center is offering a free six-week course exploring basic caregiving, available resources for the patient and caregiver, financial issues regarding care, grief and loss, palliative care and hospice care.
Palliative care is a board-certified medical specialty intended to improve quality of life for people at any stage of a serious illness, even those seeking curative treatments.
The two six-week workshops will take place from 7 to 8 p.m. Sept. 10, 17 and 24 and Oct. 8, 15 and 22 at Cross Lanes United Methodist Church, 5320 Frontier Lane, Cross Lanes, and from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 4, 11, 18 and 25 and Oct. 2 and 9 at Oakwood Baptist Church, 855 Oakwood Road.
The PalliativeCare Center also offers a free two-hour basic caregiver workshop that provides expert tips that make caregiving easier and safer, information on planning ahead and community resources that can help.
The next workshops are from 10 a.m. to noon Aug. 17 at the Sissonville Public Library, 1 Tinney Lane, and from 1 to 3 p.m. Aug. 22 at HospiceCare's main office, 1606 Kanawha Blvd. W.
