Pie making contest
JACKSONS MILL -- The Pie Contest will again be featured at the Jackson's Mill Jubilee.
Contestants should bring their pies between 2 and 3 p.m. Aug. 31 to the Southeast Learning Center. Judging begins at 3 p.m. Cash prizes will be awarded at the following ceremony.
According to contest rules, the pies must have a West Virginia product as the main ingredient, fillings must be made from fresh, home-preserved or home-frozen ingredients, crusts must be homemade, and custard pies or any pie requiring refrigeration will not be accepted.
There will be three divisions: adult (18 and over) single crust pie; adult double crust pie; and youth, single or double crust pie.
Individuals may submit up to two pies per category. One copy of the recipe must be submitted with each pie.

Wild foods weekend
CAIRO -- "Remembering Our Roots" is the theme for the 46th Annual Nature Wonder Wild Foods Weekend that will be held Sept. 20-22 at North Bend State Park.
The wild foods event includes speakers, presentations, nature walks, and collection and preparation of wild foods.
Deaonna Crowe of Stonewood, author of the cookbook "It's All Wild," is attending, as is Bill Beatty, the author of three books, who will speak on medicinal and edible plants.
The weekend offers overnight packages, as well as day-only attendance options.
