'Rocket Boys' musical
BECKLEY, W.Va. -- "Rocket Boys: The Musical," in its third season at Theatre West Virginia, continues through Aug. 25 at Cliffside Amphitheater in Grandview State Park.
Tickets are half-price for any performance for all Raleigh County teachers, students or school personnel. Also, anyone who attended one of the summer's other three shows will be given a $4 discount when making reservations for "Rocket Boys."
There is no show Aug. 19. For tickets, call the theater office at 304-256-6800 or 800-666-9142. Mention either of the discounts when calling. Discounts cannot be combined, and the special prices will not be available for online reservations.
Theatre West Virginia will close its summer season with a concert by Phil Dirt and the Dozers at 8 p.m. Aug. 30. The concert is a major fundraiser for the theater; call the numbers listed above for tickets.
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- In celebration of 200 years of West Virginia glass, six enthusiasts will explain their divergent views on West Virginia glass and how they came to connect with it at 6 p.m. Aug. 22 in the Archives and History Library in the West Virginia Culture Center.
The program "Six Voices: Six Short Stories about West Virginia Glass" is free and open to the public.
Each presenter will share one object that is symbolic of his or her story. Millie Coty, of Williamstown, home of Fenton Glass, will discuss growing up in a glass town. Dave Bush, of Weston, will talk about teaching the children of glassworkers. Dane Moore, of Jane Lew, will speak on managing a glass factory. Dottie Daugherty, of Huntington, will discuss her inherited passion for collecting glass. Dean Six, of Cairo, executive director of the West Virginia Museums of American Glass, will talk about growing up around glass. Tom Felt, of Clarksburg, will talk about how glass motivated him to move to West Virginia.
Participants are encouraged to register for the lectures, but advance registration is not required to attend.
