Wednesday concerts and luncheons

The Kanawha Forum has announced its fall schedule for noon Wednesday concerts and luncheons.

The free concerts take place from 12:05 to 12:30 p.m. at Kanawha Presbyterian Church and are open to the public. Luncheons cost $10 per person and are by prepaid reservation.

This series features three concerts by young artists, all college age students or younger.

Sept. 18 -- Bernard DiGregorio, viola; Ron Neal, piano. Menu: Chilled Cucumber Soup; Marinated Cauliflower, Olive and Caper Salad; Lemon Pecan Muffins; Mocha Mousse Puffs.

Sept. 25 -- Abebrum M. Schoonover, baritone; Jim Linderman, piano. Menu: Spicy Tomato and White Bean Soup; Fruit Salad with Yogurt-Honey Dressing; Herbed Zucchini Cheese Bread; Key Lime Pie.

Oct. 2 -- Young artists Mark Burdette and Adam Gillespie, trumpet; Ron Neal, organ. Menu: Potato-Leek Soup; Strawberry and Feta Salad; Soda Bread; Maple Walnut Pie.

Oct. 9 -- Young artist Sarah Ellen Riddle, soprano; Mark Smith, piano. Menu: Beefy Corn and Black Bean Soup; Caprese Salad; Onion Dill Muffins; Lemon Curd Tarts.

Oct. 16 -- Young artists West Virginia Treble Makers children's choir, Ilse Long, director; Gayle Rittenhouse, piano. Menu: Carrot Soup with Orange and Ginger; Autumn Apple Salad; Cream Cheese and Date Scones; Death by Chocolate.

Beer, Food pairing

HURRICANE -- The Greenhouse of Teays Valley will give its first beer tasting event at 7 p.m. Sept. 5 at its location at 3554 Teays Valley Road.

Six courses of food will be served and a different beer will be served with each. For example, for the third course, Moretti Lager, an Italian beer, will be paired with seafood Alfredo over penne pasta.

This event is $40 per guest, who must be age 21 or older. For reservations, call 304-397-6316.

Men Who Cook

The West Virginia Institute for Spirituality's third annual "Men Who Cook" event, featuring entrees produced by an array of talented but amateur chefs, takes place from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in Blessed Sacrament Church Hall at 305 E St. in South Charleston.

In addition to food and refreshments, the event includes music by George Daugherty, also known as the Earl of Elkview and the Duke of Dunbar. Tickets are $20 per person or $35 per couple, available at the door. Funds go toward the retirement of mortgage for the WVIS headquarters building at 1601 Virginia St. E in Charleston.
