CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Used book store closing

The Book Shop in South Charleston will be closing Dec. 1. Books are currently 75 percent off their original book shop prices, making them about 75 cents per paperback and $1.50 per hardback, according to Shawn Kim, owner of the 57 MacCorkle Ave. S.W. business.

"We are the last used book store in the area. I would like to express my gratitude to all the loyal customers we've had these past nearly 20 years. Marty Kempling owned the business in Spring Hill for 12 years and I purchased it from her in 2008. I can't thank our customers enough for keeping us afloat all these years," she said.

Kim said that she is closing the bookstore because the number of people reading paper books is declining. She said that most of her customers are over age 50 and that younger readers, if they read recreationally, prefer to read on mobile electronic devices.
