CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The application period is now open for the 2014 FestivALL Capitol Street Art Fair, June 28-29, and the Harvest Gift Boutique, Oct. 25-26. These juried fairs are dedicated to fine art and fine crafts. The early deadline, with reduced fees, is Feb. 15, and the final deadline is March 15.
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Kanawha Individual Development Solutions will host several activities during the holiday season.
Writing classes will be offered as two-part workshops; the first class will be offered from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., 2 to 3 p.m. or 5:30 to 7 p.m. Dec. 27; the second part will be offered at those same times on Dec. 30. The classes are designed to address creative and structural approaches to academic and personal writing pursuits. Each session contains instructional, explorative and review-based elements that allow for advancement and customization for each participant. The workshops are for students in grades 5-12. The fee is $25 for one class, $45 for both. Space is limited.
Painting workshops will be offered at 4 p.m. Dec. 27, 10 a.m., 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Dec. 28, 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. Dec. 30, and 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. Dec. 31. The two-hour class will explore color using acrylic on prepared canvas. It is a beginner-level workshop open to all ages. The fee is $15. Space is limited.
During the holiday season, KIDS is opening its creative workshop to parents looking for a unique alternative to in-home childcare. An "art sitter" will be available by appointment only at $15 per hour.

Digital photo classes
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Professional photographer Laura Moul will lead a series of beginning digital photography classes on Jan. 22, Jan. 29 and Feb. 4 at the Paintbrush Studio, 303 Pennsylvania Ave. The class is designed for anyone who may have received a new camera for Christmas or anyone wanting to learn to use their digital camera more effectively and efficiently.
The three-session class fee is $75 and includes extensive reference materials. Class size is limited to 10 and pre-registration is required. Moul is offering gift certificates for the class.
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The "Small Works" exhibit at The Art Store closes Dec. 24. The show focuses on small-size, gift-worthy artwork by represented and invited artists and including fine crafts from North American artisans.

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- Elaine Hahn's "Sunset Glow" won the People's Choice Award at Renaissance Art Gallery's 13th annual National Miniature Exhibition. The oil painting on copper is 2 inches by 4 inches.
Hahn is a resident of Holiday, Fla., and has been a regular participant in the gallery's miniature exhibition.
