RAVENSWOOD, W.Va. -- The owner of a Jackson County farm that delivered food said he's "devastated" after a fire destroyed his meat processing plant.
A fire broke out at the Sandy Creek Farms retail store and meat processing plant located off W.Va. Route 2 in Ravenswood about 1 p.m. Monday.
It appears the fire began in a smokehouse inside the processing plant, owner Richard Rees said Tuesday. Three employees escaped unharmed, and firefighters from Silverton and Ravenswood responded.
Rees said he's waiting for his insurance carrier to inspect the damage before deciding what to do next.
The farm had delivered beef, chicken, pork and other pre-cooked foods to homes in Jackson and neighboring counties.
