CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Do you have an inner fashionista needing inspiration? Do you love local art, live music and gourmet food?
If so, a group of Charleston area artists, fashion designers, musicians and businesses have organized a unique fundraiser with you in mind.
The H2OMG! Fashion Show and Live Music Fundraiser will benefit WV Clean Water Hub, a group of grass-roots volunteers coordinating donations and deliveries of clean water and supplies to citizens in need.
"It breaks my heart that there are people using the tap water to drink, cook and bathe because they can't afford not to use it," said Jodi McMillian, a Charleston massage therapist and an organizer of the fundraiser.
The event takes place from 6 to 9 p.m. March 1 at the Charleston Moose Lodge, 2805 Kanawha Blvd. E. Tickets are $20 and are available only at the event. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. Checks or cash are requested.
McMillian and her family have been fortunate to be able to get fresh water at her family's farm, Café Cimino, near Sutton, and are now capturing rainwater in barrels at their home on the West Side. But most people don't have the luxury of fresh farm water, and many citizens simply don't have any money to budget the extra cost of bottled water, she said.
That's where WV Clean Water Hub steps in to help.
"It's a network run by citizens. The government should be doing it but isn't doing it. Everyone involved in the group is volunteering their time. The process of everyone coming together to help has been very positive," McMillian said.
Runway fashions will be provided by Cornucopia, Geraniums, Stray Dog Antiques, Collage, Yarid's and Salon Indigo -- all local businesses that have joined the effort.
