CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Sure, if you like ribs, Ribfest is the place to go, but there's more on the menu than that.
Just take a look at all these goodies that will be fore sale at the event: crab cakes, shrimp, steak, fish, Italian sausage, jambalaya, turkey legs, corn dogs, burgers, macaroni and cheese, blooming onions, onion rings, French fries and chicken in many varieties and forms (curry, jerk and barbecue; fingers, fajitas and wraps).
There's plenty to satisfy your sweet tooth, too, including strawberry shortcake, funnel cakes, elephant ears, kettle corn, tropical drinks, Bavarian nuts and plenty of ice cream.
Ribfest has treats for your ears as well, with musical entertainment every day. Kicking things off is country/Southern Rock quartet the Davisson Brothers Band from 8 to 10:30 p.m. Thursday. Friday features local acts Renae Burford (country) at 7 p.m., Gage (country/rock) at 8 p.m. and Area 51 (variety) at 9 p.m. Saturday is oldies night with Rutledge at 7:15 p.m., Band of Gold at 8:15 p.m. and Rare Earth at 9 p.m. "Elvis" closes out the weekend at 4 p.m. Sunday.
Ribfest also has a free carnival, the world's largest pinball machine and arts and crafts vendors.
Hours are 4 to 10:30 p.m. Thursday, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4 to 11 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $5 for adults, $2 for children ages 6-12 and free for children 5 and under. Food is not included in this price. Visit
