CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Bob Plager took home $25,000 and bragging rights for winning first place in the red chili competition at the World Championship Chili Cookoff over the weekend.

The competition was held on Magic Island and brought hundreds of chili chefs from all over to compete for the grand prize. This is the second time the International Chili Society has hosted the event in Charleston. Next year Palm Springs, Calif. will host the event.

Second place for red chili and a $2,500 prize went to Carrie Lentz Parker. Third place and $1,000 went to Kathy Plager.

Bob Hall, of Taylorville, Ill., won the contest for best green chili on Saturday, and was rewarded a $4,000 prize.
