Post-harvest produce workshop
WVU Extension commercial horticulture specialist Lewis Jett will give a workshop for area farmers and gardeners about post-harvest handling of produce from 6 to 8 p.m. July 31 at the Charleston Area Alliance, 1116 Smith St.
The workshop is free and open to the public, but registration is required. Register at http://bit.ly/1aMYHsB or call the WVU Kanawha County Extension Service at 304-720-9573.
Jett will discuss appropriate production practices, careful harvesting, proper packaging, storage and transport, all of which contribute to good produce quality.
Earlier this month, Mary Basham, of Dabney Drive, spotted in Readers' Voice a request for zucchini bread.
With no name attached, she didn't know how to help, so she mailed the newspaper a copy of her recipe, which she said is delicious. It once won a Winfield woman $5 for being the Daily Mail's Specialty of the House recipe contest.
