Vertical gardening workshop
James Coffman will present a free workshop on vertical gardening from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Oct. 3 at the West Virginia State University's Economic Development Center, 1506 Kanawha Blvd.W.
Coffman is president of Future Growing LLC. He'll discuss the use of vertical garden systems to increase fruit and vegetable production. Future Growing is known for vertical food production using patented Tower Garden technology.

Ice Cream fall flavors
Starting Oct.2, Ellen's Homemade Ice Cream at 225 Capitol St. will be selling Paw Paw ice cream.
Only five gallons of this West Virginia favorite has been made, so it's likely to sell out within two or three days. Ellen's is also offering Pumpkin Ice Cream and Guinness Ice Cream during October.
Festival of Food dinner
Five area chefs will prepare a five-course meal for the FARM2U Collaborative's third annual Festival of Food" dinner at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 21 at Paterno's at the Park.
The chefs and their courses are:
Chef Dale Hawkins, Fish Hawk Acres, antipasto salad smorgasbord.
Chef Tom Grant, Carver Career & Technical Center, appetizer.
Chef Matt Grover, Mardi Gras Casino & Resort, soup.
