Men's shelter needs items

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The following items are needed for the men's shelter Crossroads: towels, washcloths, shampoo, liquid body wash, disposable razors and foot powder.

Items can be dropped off from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. any day at the shelter, 503 Leon Sullivan Way.

Concord scholarship dinner

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Concord University Foundation will hold its annual dinner to raise money for scholarships for Concord students at 6 p.m. Oct. 11 at the Clay Center.

The keynote speaker will be Jack Furst, philanthropist, businessman and lifelong Boy Scouts of America volunteer.

A member of the BSA's national executive board and an officer of the national council, Furst serves as team leader for developing and programming the Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve. The high-adventure base in the New River Gorge area will host the 2013 Boy Scout National Jamboree.

Furst's business interests include ranching and private investments. He lives with his family at their ranch in Argyle, Texas. He is an adjunct professor of finance at the University of North Texas.
