Charleston men's shelter needs items

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Crossroads Men's Shelter in Charleston needs the following items:

Hand sanitizer, large bottles of shampoo, toilet scrub brushes, extra-large size Playtex cleaning gloves, Lysol spray disinfectant, Pine-Sol liquid cleaner, bleach, and steel wool pads.

Items may be dropped off anytime from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Crossroads, 503 Leon Sullivan Way.

Pie social fundraiser for Jackson town

COTTAGEVILLE, W.Va. -- Pies baked by candidates for public office in Jackson County will be sold at auction at 4 p.m. Sept. 15 at the Jackson County Junior Fairgrounds.

Money raised from the auction will go to the Cottageville Community Educational Outreach Service to use for community improvements.

The Ol' Time Pie Social begins at 1 p.m. and will include kids games, such as sack races, water balloon toss, three-legged races and an egg race. There will be seed spitting, hot dog eating, bubble gum blowing and pie eating contests. The final event will be the showing of a family movie at 7 p.m.

Concessions will be available, including brown beans and corn bread, hot dogs and popcorn.
