Boys Night Out

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Boys Night Out, an annual tailgating fundraiser, is set for the WVU football game at Texas Tech Oct. 13 at McJunkin Redman Field on Hillcrest Drive.

Presented by Northside Automotive, the game watching party will raise money to support the YWCA Sojourner's Shelter for Women, Children and Families.

The event includes a pig roast, wings, beer and, this year, a raffle to win four tickets to the WVU-Oklahoma home game Nov. 17. The party begins two hours before kickoff.

Tickets to the tailgate are $75. For more information, visit guysnightoutcharleston.com.

Concert for orphanage

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- A benefit concert to raise funds for a place in Kenya will take place at 2 p.m. Sept. 16 at Christ Church United Methodist.

Groups performing are the Concert Choir of the Appalachian Children's Chorus, the Martin Luther King Jr. Chorus, the Rev. Ethel Caffie-Austin, Kendalyn McDaniel, liturgical dancer, and nowHere Praise Team.

A freewill offering will be collected with all proceeds going directly to the Tumaini Children's Home in Nyeri, Kenya. The home provides food, shelter and schooling for street children and orphaned children in need.

The Presbytery of West Virginia has a longstanding partnership with the Presbytery of Nyeri, which includes sister churches, exchange visits and financial support.

"Currently ... the 520 children at the two locations of the Tumaini Children's Home are in desperate need of assistance as the result of five years of drought and a civil war. Staff at the homes has been reduced because of these conditions and older children are now caring for younger children," according to Presbytery news release.
