Sing for child center

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The sixth annual Charleston Choir Festival will take place at 3 p.m. Nov. 11 in the sanctuary of St. Mark's United Methodist Church, 900 Washington St. E.

Each choir will sing two selections that represent their church's denomination. A combined choir benediction also will be offered. The concert is free and open to the public. A light reception will follow.

Each choir has paid an entrance donation and a collection will be taken at the performance. All money collected will go directly to the Davis Child Shelter.

Participating choirs are: Canaan United Methodist Church, Charleston Baptist Temple, Emmanuel Baptist Church, First Presbyterian Church, St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, St. Timothy Lutheran Church and St. Mark's United Methodist Church.

Greenbrier fundraiser

LEWISBURG, W.Va. -- The Greenbrier Historical Society will hold its annual fundraiser, "Stellar Evening," at 7 p.m. Dec. 1 at the Greenbrier Valley Convention and Visitors Bureau, 200 W. Washington St.

The evening of dancing, food and holiday fun includes a silent auction of items donated by local restaurants and merchants.

Tickets are $75 per person and must be reserved by Nov. 27. Contact the Greenbrier Historical Society at 304-645-3398 or i...@greenbrierhistorical.org, or stop by the North House, 301 W. Washington St., Lewisburg, to reserve a ticket. All proceeds benefit the Society and North House Museum.

FOOTMAD helps Manna Meal

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Kanawha Valley Friends of Old Time Music and Dance is holding a drive this month to help Manna Meal, Charleston's largest soup kitchen.

Anyone who brings a needed item will get a $5 discount on admission to the contra dance at 8 p.m. Nov. 16 in the Columbia Gas auditorium, and the Ernie Hawkins concert at 8 p.m. Nov. 17 in the Culture Center Theater.

Items for donation include canned meats and fish -- Spam/Treet, chicken, Vienna sausages, ham, potted meat, salmon, clams, oysters -- or canned fruits with flip-top lids. Men's clothing also is requested: gloves, wool socks, hats, jeans or warm pants sizes 28 to 38. Items should be new or in good condition.
