UC spring concert
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The University of Charleston Concert Choir and University Singers will present their annual spring concert at 1 p.m. April 21 in Riggleman Hall's Erma Byrd Art Gallery on the UC campus.
Admission to the concert is free, but donations will be accepted for the African Children's Choir and Music for Life Centers. The students adopted a member of the African Children's Choir at the beginning of the school year and are supporting a 17-year-old boy from Uganda in following his passion for singing. So far this year, the choir has raised nearly $1,200 from various concerts on top of a monthly $50 donation from the choir members.
The 90-minute concert will feature music from the United States, Europe and Africa. Secular and sacred works by composers Hovland, Telemann, Lennon, Schonberg, Rutter and many others will be performed by the 25-voice choir, directed by Dr. Joseph Janisch, assistant professor of music and chairman of the department of humanities.
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The Holiday Inn & Suites Charleston West is sponsoring "Holiday in Pink," a free breast cancer awareness event from 5 to 8 p.m. April 23 at the hotel in South Charleston.
The evening includes entertainment, health-related vendors and pampering-related vendors. Free food and beverages are provided by the hotel as well as goodie bags for the first 200 guests. There will be door prizes and a silent auction.
Susan G. Komen also uses the event as a registration site and an individual packet pickup location for the May 4 Race for the Cure.
