Dog days yard sale
INSTITUTE, W.Va. -- The Dog Days of Summer Yard Sale, an indoor, air-conditioned rummage sale, will take place from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 13 in the James C. Wilson Student Union at West Virginia State University.
The sale is sponsored by WVSU's Kappa Delta Pi education honor society, and all proceeds will go to the organization.
Tables may be reserved for $10 by individual families, as well as churches, civic and school groups, Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops. To register online or print out a registration form, visit www.dogdaysyardsale.info.
Kappa Delta Pi's Lambda Zeta chapter sponsors activities throughout the year, including read-aloud activities at elementary schools, professional development programs for teachers and education students, and various programs for underprivileged children.
A-B names bell tower
PHILIPPI, W.Va. -- Jean Cunningham was honored by her family and Alderson-Broaddus College on May 25 when the Wilcox Chapel bell tower was named the Jean Cunningham Bell Tower, made possible by a gift from her family.
A 1953 A-B graduate, Cunningham received an honorary doctorate from the college in 2008. She has served on its board of trustees and is chairwoman of its Renewing the Promise capital campaign.
Cunningham and her late husband, Jim, were deeply involved in Baptist ministries, and she is the minister of administration at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Charleston and also sings in the choir. She is a member of the General Board of American Baptist Churches USA.
