CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Mission West Virginia's Carry On Campaign is underway to collect luggage, essential personal care items and items of comfort for children who are in transition to the state's foster-care system. West Virginia has more than 4,000 children in the foster-care system.
The second annual Thanksgiving-time drive, dubbed "Give Thanks and Carry On," was launched earlier this week.
Items sought include new and gently used luggage, duffle bags, stuffed animals, coloring books, journals, toothbrushes, toothpaste and nonperishable snacks. Additional items being collected during the winter months include coats, gloves, mittens, hats, scarves, earmuffs, socks and blankets. All items collected will be distributed by Mission West Virginia.
The Carry On Campaign is a collaborative, multiagency partnership that includes the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of West Virginia, the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources, Mission West Virginia Inc., the West Virginia Prosecuting Attorneys Institute and the West Virginia Drug Endangered Children Task Force.

Flag football benefit
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Employees in the Charleston office of Cincinnati-based law firm Dinsmore & Shohl will face off in the Shohl Bowl, a flag football game that will determine office bragging rights and raise money for the Ronald McDonald House's Share a Night campaign.
The Shohl Bowl begins at 2 p.m. Nov. 24 at the Schoenbaum Soccer Complex at Coonskin Park.
The teams have raised money leading up to the competition. BB&T Wealth Management sponsored the bowl with a $1,000 donation.
For every $20 donated, the Share a Night campaign provides one free night at the Ronald McDonald House for families of children receiving medical treatment. Dinsmore's Charleston office hopes to provide at least 150 free nights for those families.
