I have a couple of Knock Outs, so I put these Oso Easy roses near them so I could make an apples-to-apples comparison.

A note about Proven Winners: The Proven Winners brand is owned by three U.S. plant propagators: Euro American, in Bonsall, Calif.; Four Star Greenhouse, in Carleton, Mich.; and Pleasant View Gardens, in Loudon, N.H. These companies founded Proven Winners in 1992, and, together with three licensees in Canada, produce liners under the Proven Winners name. Liners are then sold to wholesale growers to finish and sell to retailer garden centers across North America.

"Liner" is a trade term for young immature plants or trees that will be grown for one or more seasons in the nursery before reaching a sellable size. The term "liner" is typically used when referencing perennial, ornamental and woody type material. Annuals in this form are usually called plugs.

So the plants I received were liners from one of Proven Winners' plant propagators that were finished at White Flower Farm. Thanks to them I got to open a box!

Visit www.whiteflowerfarm.com or call 800-411-6159. Proven Winners plants are available at garden centers throughout our area.

Yellow peonies

I planted a yellow peony several years ago and it had never bloomed. I was getting frustrated, as was my friend Julianne, who planted one as well.

But this spring, the show was spectacular! Finally, the plant bloomed with huge, soft-yellow blossoms. Now I have to go into the plant file in the drawer and find the name of that bush -- it's in there, but at the bottom of the file, I'm sure. I will buy more.
