State Parks are ready for fall leaf peepers

West Virginia's state parks are offering discounts on cabins, lodges and campgrounds during the parks' popular autumn season.

North Bend State Park features a $59 room rate mid-week in October. Twin Falls, Hawks Nest and Pipestem anticipate late fall coloration and are offering a "Livin' Right" 25 percent discount on lodge, from Oct. 22 through Dec.29. Packages and special rates are posted on www.wvstateparks.com as available.

Babcock State Park, which changes colors earlier because of its higher elevation, has a webcam to get a real-time view of the leaf coloration. Check it out at www.babcocksp.com.

Cass Scenic Railroad fall foliage runs continue through Oct. 28, with the Halloween Train on Oct. 27.

North Bend has a 10-mile hike Saturday to enjoy the fall foliage of Ritchie County, and a one-mile tree walk at noon Oct. 20.

Also on Oct. 20 is a fall festival at Kanawha State Forest with guided hikes and nature talks. Call 304-558-3500 for details.
