BECKLEY, W.Va. -- The Tamarack Foundation believes there are lots of opportunities for small-business entrepreneurs in Southern West Virginia, in light of the new Boy Scout camp and the many outdoor recreation choices nearby.

The foundation is a host for a free "one-stop shopping day" to provide information to entrepreneurs in four targeted areas -- artisan industry, agribusiness, tourism and service industry -- from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 5 at the Tamarack Conference Center, Beckley.

The Small Business Resource Summit will bring together more than 30 small and micro business service providers, including providers of loans, grants and technical and educational services, to help entrepreneurs start and operate a successful small business.

In addition to the vendors fair are five breakout sessions (seating first-come, first-served): 9:30 to 10:15 a.m., "The Nuts and Bolts of Starting Your Business"; 10:30 to 11:15 a.m., "Market Opportunities in Southern West Virginia"; 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., "Marketing Your Business through Social Media"; 12:30 to 1:15 p.m., "Understanding Cash Flow"; and 1:15 to 2 p.m., "Doing Business with Boy Scouts of America."

Immediately following the summit, an "Entrepreneurs' Café" gives up to eight businesses 10 minutes each to pitch their business to the crowd, which will vote on their favorite business presentation. The entrepreneur with the most votes will win a minimum $400 plus business services donated by local businesses. Café admission is $10 per person, with all the proceeds going toward the prize. Contact Laura Harvey at 304-253-3145 regarding presenting at the café.

The West Virginia Small and Micro Business Alliance for Economic Inclusion has partnered with organizations that provide services to prospective and current small business to hold the summit. In addition to Tamarack Foundation, other hosts are BB&T Community Development and the Alliance for Economic Inclusion, an initiative of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp.

No registration is required for the summit.
