Spirit getting early start to Myrtle Beach service

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Spirit Airlines will start its seasonal service from Yeager Airport to Myrtle Beach, S.C., two months earlier next year.

The airline will begin those flights March 2. Last year's seasonal service to Myrtle Beach began in May and lasted through November.

"We're really excited to see them move it up," Yeager spokesman Brian Belcher said.

By starting early, Spirit can cater to those traveling for spring break and to golfers and other travelers, he said.

"There's a lot of people in West Virginia that have condos there and a lot of West Virginians in Myrtle Beach that want to get back," he said.

Spirit will also start seasonal service to Myrtle Beach early in four other cities: Chicago, Detroit, Pittsburg and Niagara Falls/Toronto, the airline announced.

Those are the cities where the airline has confidence it can fill those flights, Belcher said.

"The airline has confidence in the market and hopefully when people see it's in the system they will take advantage," Belcher said.
