Advertiser

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. -- The North Central West Virginia Airport is expected to qualify for $1 million in federal funding after it topped the required 10,001 passengers for the year.

The Exponent-Telegram reports that interim airport director Rick Rock released preliminary passenger figures Wednesday during a meeting of the Benedum Airport Authority.

Rock said the airport has recorded 10,079 enplanements as of Monday. The total hasn't been certified by the Federal Aviation Administration.

Authority President Ron Watson projects the year-end total to be about 10,500.

Airports that don't meet the 10,001-passenger mark can receive $150,000 in federal funding.
