Arts and garden tour
WESTON, W.Va. --A tour of five gardens -- all on one street -- will be included in the Arts in the Garden Tour, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 22 in Weston.
Included are shade, cottage, Asian and riverside gardens. Dale and Dauna Hawkins will talk on the garden-to-table movement. There also will be a display of six miniature fairy gardens.
Tickets are $10 and may be purchased the day of the tour at West Hall at St. Paul Episcopal Church, Center Avenue at Second Street. For the tour, park across the street in the St. Patrick's Catholic Church parking lot and take a shuttle to Kitson Street.
PARKERSBURG, W.Va. -- Blennerhassett Island Historical State Park is the setting for a series of nature programs in 2013 focusing on the area's native plant and wildlife.
The walks or activities take place from 2 to 3:15 p.m. and will be hosted by the Parkersburg/Marietta area master naturalists chapter known as the "Nature Nuts."
There is no charge to attend the interpretative activity, but there is a charge for transportation to the island on the Island Belle sternwheeler. Tickets for the boat ride are sold at the Blennerhassett Museum of Regional History, Second and Juliana streets.
The next program is "All About Birds" on June 8. At least 14 species of birds are adapted to life along the river. Learn bird characteristics through scavenger-hunt-type clues including the food that birds eat and descriptions of feet, beaks and overall bird shape.

Company houses for rent
GREEN BANK, W.Va. -- New for 2013, and just in time for its 50th anniversary, company-house accommodations may be reserved at Cass Scenic Railroad State Park through a new online service. Reservations may also be taken by telephone.
"There are 20 of the company houses in town that have been renovated as vacation houses," said Cass Superintendent Rob Sovine. "Cass has rented these homes for many years both in the summer and winter months."
Call the park for tickets to ride on the Cass Scenic Railroad. Trains begin operating May 24.
Bluegrass at North Bend
