North Bend and Blackwater Falls state parks offer adjusted rates for mid-week travelers in autumn, and Chief Logan Lodge offers a discount all week through the end of the year.

At Blackwater Falls State Park, guests who stay two or more nights Monday through Thursday receive a 50 percent off standard rates from Oct. 21 to Nov. 14. Ask for the fall festival rate when calling 304-259-5216.
Logan is celebrating the state's 150th birthday by offering an $18.63 discount off standard room rates through Dec. 27.

Autumn Splendor Dinner Train
PETERSBURG -- The annual Autumn Splendor Dinner Train is rolling through Petersburg on Oct. 19, just in time for the changing leaves in Grant County.
The evening begins with a West Virginia food and wine tasting from 2 to 4 p.m. at the South Side Depot in Petersburg. Boarding will be from 4 to 4:30 p.m. for the three-hour ride.
Once aboard the train an array of West Virginia-made goods will be offered, including Blue Smoke salsa and chips and a fresh green salad with wilted lettuce dressing, produced by Appalachian Specialty Foods. Beef brisket, shrimp, potatoes and green beans will be served for dinner, plus homemade chocolate fudge turtle cake or pumpkin cheesecake for dessert.
The train route leads passengers along the South Branch of the Potomac River, where it will make its way to Moorefield and back.
Tickets are $60 per passenger and are for adults only. Reservations are required and tickets can be purchased by calling the South Side Depot at 304-257-9264 or by visiting www.southsidedepot.com.

Fall chairlift rides at Winterplace
BECKLEY -- Winterplace Ski Resort is offering scenic fall chairlift rides from noon to 5 p.m., weather permitting, on Saturdays and Sundays through mid-October.
According to Terry Pfeiffer, president of Winterplace Ski Resort, "During October the temperatures are comfortable, the foliage is changing and the views are absolutely stunning with a wide spectrum of colors across magnificent vistas. On a clear day you can see for miles."
Winterplace is located off of Interstate 77 between Beckley and Princeton.
"Families and groups are welcome and food and beverages will be available at the Mountain House along with games," Pfeiffer said.
Cost is $7 for adults, $5 for children, who must be at least 3-foot-2. Tennis shoes and/or hiking boots are recommended and passengers must be able to get on and off the chairlift without assistance. Guests will be able to descend the mountain at their own pace by either hiking down or riding the chairlift down.
