Inspired by a photograph in a recent Sunday Gazette-Mail article featuring watermelon, Jon Jett of Morgantown carved a melon into the shape of a turtle for his mother's birthday party. His creation is a nearly identical replica of a photograph featured in the newspaper article.

April Hamilton will teach Kids' Cooking Camp July 18-22 or Aug. 8-12 for children ages 8-12, at Village Chapel Presbyterian Church.

Bake a cover cake

Southern Living magazine challenges readers to bake their rendition of a white cake for the Holiday White Cake Cover Contest. The winning cake will grace the cover of the magazine's December issue and earn the winner $1,000. Two runner-up winners will receive $500. Their recipes will be featured in the issue.

Marietta Sweet Corn Festival
