Cool use for not-so-frozen fruit

Fruit smoothies saved the day as temperatures rose and the freezer thawed. From left, blueberry, creamy peach and strawberry banana smoothies provided cool refreshment.

Creamy Peach Smoothie

Serves 2

2 cups unsweetened frozen sliced peaches

1/2 cup skim milk

1/2 cup orange juice

1/2 cup nonfat vanilla yogurt

COMBINE all ingredients in a blender, and blend until smooth.

Nutritional information: calories 161, fat 1g, cholesterol 4mg, carbohydrates 39g, protein 7g and fiber 2g

Blackberry-Cinnamon Smoothie

Serves 2

1 1/2 cups frozen blackberries

1/2 cup low-fat plain yogurt

1/2 cup low-fat buttermilk

1 tablespoon honey

1/8 teaspoon ground

cinnamon

COMBINE all ingredients in a blender, and blend until smooth.

Nutritional information: calories 168, saturated fat 1g, unsaturated fat 1g, cholesterol 6mg, carbohydrates 34g, sodium 109mg, protein 7g and fiber 6g.

Chocolate and Peanut Butter Smoothie

Serves 1

3/4 cup frozen berries

1/4 cup low-fat vanilla yogurt

1/2 cup low-fat chocolate soy milk

2 tablespoons reduced-fat all-natural peanut butter

COMBINE all ingredients in a blender, and blend until smooth.

Nutrition information per serving: 355 calories, 14g fat, 41g carbohydrate, 15g protein
