Hundreds of marchers set off from Marmet on Monday, on a five-day trek to Blair Mountain. Among other aims, the group hopes to preserve the mountain from being mined.

The marchers head south on W.Va. 94, passing by the entrance to the West Virginia Turnpike.

Some counter-protestors, including Casie Bailey (left) and Jessica Carpenter of Marmet, came out to make their feelings known to the marchers.
