Workers and subcontractors for West Virginia American Water pieced together a pipeline extension across the Kanawha River on Monday, to connect the utility's existing system to the town of Pratt's water plant. Pratt residents voted overwhelmingly this summer to sell the town's troublesome water system to West Virginia American Water.
The extension from the utility's existing system on the north side of the Kanawha River will involve about 1.8 miles of pipeline. Once the line is in place across the river, a diver will walk the river floor to make sure the line is OK before it is buried.
The ball-and-socket connection seen at the bottom of this photo will connect the 16-inch pipeline on the river's north bank with the 8-inch pipeline traversing the river.
