What started as a domestic disturbance ended as a swim across the Kanawha River.
Dunbar police were called to 717 West Virginia Ave. in Dunbar, but when they got there the man causing the disturbance was already swimming across the river to South Charleston, said a Kanawha County 911 dispatcher.
"We got a call that the guy jumped in and said he wanted to commit suicide," said Sgt. R.C. Schoolcraft of the South Charleston Police department. "But he swam all the way across. The medics took him just to make sure. He was intoxicated."
No crime was committed, Schoolcraft said. "As far as we knew he just swam across the river," he said.
Medics took the man, whose name was not released, to CAMC General Hospital, the dispatcher said.
