More than $40 million for highway and road projects in West Virginia has been added to a spending bill that cleared the Senate Appropriations Committee, U.S. Sen. Robert C. Byrd announced Monday.
The bill also includes $4.5 million to help Mountain State airports.
"Unfortunately, the president has not made a priority of roadways and infrastructure needs here at home," Byrd said. "I know that they will contribute to new economic development in our state, while providing safer travel for local residents and visitors."
Byrd added $10 million in funds for work on Corridor H to the Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development Appropriations fiscal 2009 bill. So far, Byrd has secured $341.2 million in federal funds to build Corridor H.
"With work now complete on all of our other corridors, we can focus our efforts on Corridor H," Byrd said. "Corridor H is a critically important undertaking for West Virginia."
