I'd much rather they close the regatta (or move it) and leave the streets open. After all, they ARE streets.

Regatta, which is common in other places I live is a historically significant tradition in this city. It may be a watered down lesser form from previous years. Lets say it's taking it easy for a few years. In my several years living here, even what people have described as a "limited" Regatta seems to be a fun filled festival uniting people and acknowledging that another summer season has passed.

Please don't let the nay sayers rule the day. Keep this fine tradition, sometimes in limited form, sometimes int he full fledged glory I've heard was part of the past.

When we overlook, or bypass such fine traditions, we lose a little of ourselves, a little of our community bond. Go out and enjoy regatta this weekend. Talk to your neighbors, get to know them and celebrate the unique vibe that is Charleston, West Virginia.

No matter what the whiners my say. I still enjoy the regatta. I miss the sternwheelers, and the whole week of festivities, but I still have fun. It's what you make of it, people. If you want to sit around and complain about closing the Blvd, or that there's no boats, or you don't like Danny Jones (who, by the way, has nothing to do with the decline in the regatta) then of course you won't have a good time. But if you just shut-up, go, and enjoy what IS there, you might feel a little better and, who knows, you may have a good time. But regardless, I'll be there singing along with Morris Day and the Time. "Jungle love, o-ee-o-ee-o!"

It's not for my benefit. I have to work and probably wouldn't go if I didn't have to. If I wanted a carnival, I'd go to Camden Park.
