CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- A Cross Lanes man was sentenced in federal court Tuesday to eight months in prison for possessing a gun after having been convicted of domestic violence, the U.S. Attorney's Office announced.
Michael D. Elswick, 46, pleaded guilty on July 1, admitting that he had a .22 caliber rifle and a 12-gauge shotgun in February 2007. Elswick had previously been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence, the release states.
Chief U.S. District Judge Joseph R. Goodwin imposed the sentence.
Also on Tuesday, a Huntington man pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute heroin.
Michael Shane Watts, 38, admitted that he had .788 grams of heroin when he was arrested on West Sixth Avenue in Huntington on May 4, 2007, the release states. After his arrest, Watts told investigators that he was involved in dealing heroin in Huntington and elsewhere with others.
U.S. District Judge Robert C. Chambers set Watts' sentencing for Dec. 1. Watts faces up to 20 years in prison.
