Anniversaries/homecomings

  • Good Shepherd Free Will Baptist Church will have its homecoming service at 10 a.m. Sunday at the church, 5470 West Pea Ridge Road, Huntington. The Rev. Eugene Davis will preach at 10 a.m. Music will be presented by the Family Circle and Family of Prayer. There will be no evening service. A prayer meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday; the Rev. Joe Dolen will preach and youth services also start. 
  • Kellys Creek Community Church, Kellys Creek Road, Sissonville, will hold annual homecoming services at 10 a.m. Sunday. The Rev. Ray Humphreys will preach and the Believers Quartet will sing during the morning service. The Jay Humphreys Trio will sing during the afternoon song and praise service.
  •   Walker Chapel Missionary Baptist Church will hold homecoming services at 7 p.m. today with Pastor Fairley McCormick. Singer will be Marvin Welch. Sunday services begin at 11 a.m. with Pastor Terry Workman as speaker and singing by Randy Taylor. A covered dish lunch will be served from noon to 1:30 p.m. Evangelist Jimmy Edens will preach and sing in the afternoon service.
  • Hurricane First Church of God annual homecoming will begin at 2 p.m. on Sept. 20 at the church, 3225 Putnam Ave., Hurricane. Singing will be provided by the Bluegrass Harmony and the Church Singers. A covered dish lunch will be offered after the singing. For information, call 590-1408.
  • First Baptist Church of Chesapeake, 24 130th St., Chesapeake, will have its homecoming service on Sunday. Sunday school begins at 10 a.m. and morning worship service at 11 a.m. A covered dish dinner will be served after the service.
  • Coopers Creek Advent Christian Church will have its homecoming Sunday at 11 a.m. Speaker will be David Terry. Lunch will be served at noon. The Big Coal River Boys will perform afterward. Bring a friend. Call 965-5015 for information.
  • Davis Memorial Church, Chandler Drive, will hold homecoming services at 10 a.m. Dinner will be served at noon in the activity building. Afternoon services start at 1:30 p.m. with Randy Saunders and the Masters Three Trio providing music.
  • Hanson Chapel will have its homecoming services at 10 a.m. Sunday at the church. Morning speaker will be Pastor Kenny Beasley. Afternoon speaker will be Pastor Roy Moles. A week's revival will follow with speaker Tom Price and special singing nightly.
  • Shrewsbury Community Church will have its homecoming services on Sunday. Sunday school begins at 10 a.m. and the Rev. Roy Boyd will speak at 11:15 p.m. Lunch will follow at noon. A song and praise service featuring Faithful Journey will begin at 1:30 p.m.

  • New Beginnings Church of the Nazarene in Pinch, across from Pinch Elementary School, will have its homecoming services on Sept. 21. Afternoon activities include a covered dish dinner and music by the Gracemen Quartet.
  • Lucy Wilson Baptist Church, Elkview, will hold homecoming services on Sunday. Jason Hays will bring the morning message and By His Grace Singers will perform. An afternoon service features Carl Casto as speaker and the Harvest Trio as performers.
  • Abundant Life Ministries and Pastor Wayne R. Crozier will celebrate its 10th church/pastoral anniversary Sept. 19-21. First Lady's Night will be held at 7 p.m. on Sept. 19 with guest speaker Pastor Wanda Shelton of New Jerusalem Non-Denominational Church. Angie Richardson will provide music. Guest speaker at 7 p.m. on Sept. 18 will be Bishop Kenneth Lisath of New Jerusalem Christian Center, Ironton, Ohio. Quandora Hornbuckle will provide music. At 11 a.m. Sept. 21, guest speaker will be Elder Dwight Bright of Faith Temple of Deliverance, Beckley. 
  • Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church in Chesapeake will celebrate its 88th anniversary at 3 p.m. on Sept. 21. Guest speaker will be the Rev. George Ford from the Word of Life Christian Center in Farmington, N.M. The Spiritual Harmonizers will provide music. Dinner will be served after the morning service.
  • Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church of Logan will celebrate its 76th anniversary and homecoming on Sunday. Guest preacher will be the Rev. Cornell Byers and the Guyan Valley Baptist Men's Chorus will provide the music. Dinner will be served after the morning services. Afternoon services will start at 3:30 p.m.
  • Red Oak Christian Community Church, Red Oak Drive, Nitro, will have its homecoming at 10 a.m. Sunday. Dinner will be served at noon. Speaker will be John Henderson. The Bowlings, Gospel Words and Cross Roads will provide singing.
  • First Missionary Baptist Church of Boomer will celebrate its 102nd anniversary and homecoming at 3 p.m. Sunday. Sunday school begins at 9:30 a.m. Morning worship service starts at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Robert Frazier as speaker. The Rev. Audie Murphy, pastor of Shiloh Baptist Church, Sharples, will speak at the afternoon service. The Brown Singers, First Baptist Boomer Gospel Chorus and others will provide music. Dinner will be served at 1:30 p.m.
  • Lens Creek Baptist Church at Hernshaw will have its homecoming services and dinner from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sept. 21.
  • First Baptist Church of South Charleston will have its 90th anniversary celebration today and Sunday. Today's activities include a riding tour at 2 p.m. for out-of-town guests; piano concert at 2:45 p.m. by Karl Wolfe; tour of the church at 3:15 p.m.; dinner at 6 p.m. at the church. Sunday's activities include Sunday school at 9:30 a.m.; fellowship time at 10:30 a.m.; a church service at 11 a.m. with Dr. Daniel Light as speaker and he and his wife, Ginny, providing music; anniversary pictures will be taken at noon; and a picnic will be served at 1:30 p.m. at Little Creek Park. Covered dish meat and drinks will be provided.

  • Albans Arts and Convention Center, newly decorated, in St. Albans will host an open house for Grace Community Church service at 11 a.m. on Sunday. The church worship team will provide contemporary music. Pastor Mike Greider will introduce Mayor Dick Callaway for welcoming comments. Finger food will be served after the service.   • Southeast Church of the Nazarene, 5102 MacCorkle Ave., Kanawha City, will have its Fall Fest from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today on the church back parking lot. The event kicks off the church's centennial celebration.  Foods, games and crafts for kids will be featured. WV Power mascot will appear.
  • St. Paul United Methodist Church will have its annual gigantic yard sale from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 20 at the church, 4606 Kanawha Turnpike, South Charleston. The church-wide sale features appliances, furniture, tools, clothing, toys, housewares and more. Hot dogs will be sold. For information, call 768-3633.
  • Mount Olivet Baptist Church, 6532 MacCorkle Ave., will sponsor an open house at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the church. Food, games, inflatables and more will be featured, rain or shine.

  • Winfield Presbyterian Church will hold its annual rummage sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 20 at the church, corner of Fourth and Ferry Street in Winfield, behind the Winfield IGA.
  • Women's Home and Foreign Mission Society of Elmore Advent Christian Church, corner of Crescent Road and Market Street, will have a hot dog, white elephant and bake sale at 9 a.m. today. Proceeds from the sale will support missionary programs.
  • Fair Haven Christian School benefit gospel sing will be held at 5 p.m. Sept. 27 at John Slack Park, three miles up Campbells Creek. In case of rain, the event will moved to Fair Haven Church, Campbells Creek. The Laborers Quartet, Frontline Quartet and Been Redeemed groups will perform.
  • Metropolitan Baptist Institute will resume classes on Wednesday. Bible study will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. on "The History of the Baptist Church." From 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, the theme will be "Church History." The cost is $70. Starting Sept. 20, from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturdays, the class will be "Survey of the Old Testament."
