CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The deadline to register to vote in the general election is here, but crowds of new voters aren't.
Today is the last day to register in person, mail in registration forms or register to vote in a new county.
During the last presidential election, more than 65,000 new voters signed up between the primary election and the deadline for the general election.
Although official totals aren't yet available, by late last week the Secretary of State had registered just over 16,000 new voters since the primary.
Part of the reason is the presidential candidates have paid little attention to West Virginia this year.
West Virginia Wesleyan professor Robert Rupp said a lack of close state races also contributes to the low registration.
