SNOWSHOE, W.Va. -- Andrew Zimmern has traveled the world in search of strange delicacies, but now he's trying something that many West Virginians won't think is so exotic: squirrel.

Zimmern, host of the Travel Channel's "Bizarre Foods,'' is coming to Snowshoe on Friday for a traditional squirrel hunt with restaurateur Brian Ball.

Ball owns the Ember restaurant at Snowshoe Mountain Ski Resort, and plans to serve the TV host a meal of squirrel brains after the hunt.

Squirrel season began on Oct. 11 and runs through the end of January. Hunting squirrels is a popular diversion during deer season, although the TV crew shouldn't get too attached to the cuisine: there's a daily bag limit of six bushytails per hunter.

Squirrel brains are good food, but the thoughts of eating them could turn off a lot of people who were not raised in our culture. I hope the story is presented in a manner of respect to West Virginians and doesn't do what a lot the national media does and show us as a bunch of less then intelligent people. Try squirrel tounge. Better than brains. Serious
