MOUNDSVILLE, W.Va. -- A West Virginia woman has been charged with child abuse and assault after being accused of burning the word "wimp'' into her 6-year-old daughter's neck with a cigarette.
Tammy Smith is charged with five counts of child abuse and five counts of malicious assault, all felonies. The 43-year-old Smith is being held in jail on $50,000 bond. The daughter has been placed in foster care.
Moundsville police Detective Shawn Allman said that the girl told authorities that her mother burned her because she was angry because the child had tripped and fell. He also noted that Smith even dotted the "i.'' An employee of the child's school noticed the burns and contacted state social workers, who contacted local police on Wednesday. The girl has been placed in foster care.Advertisement - Your ad here
