ELKINS, W.Va. -- Bargains abound for early season skiers as three resorts prepare to open.
Timberline Resort in Davis will offer $1 lift tickets Thursday. Officials say they don't know yet how many trails will be open.
Canaan Valley Resort, meanwhile, is offering free skiing from noon to 4:30 p.m. on Dec. 11. Spokesman Brian Brown says the official opening is Dec. 12.
To celebrate its 37th year, Canaan Valley is offering lodging for $37 a night Dec. 11-14. It's also selling $20 lift tickets Dec. 12-14.
Cross-country skiers have been hitting the trails at nearby Whitegrass for three weeks, but its official opening is Saturday.
Employee Mike Sayre says the season gets under way with the 27th annual Jack Frost Celebration, featuring live music, food and bonfires.
