CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- West Virginia's unemployment rate has increased for the 10th consecutive month.
Workforce West Virginia said Monday that the state's jobless rate in June was 9.4 percent, a 1.1 percentage point increase from the previous month.
The service-providing sector lost 3,700 jobs in June, mostly due to seasonal losses at colleges and universities.
Construction gained 400 jobs but that was offset by a loss of 500 jobs in mining and logging.
Overall, West Virginia has lost 22,700 non-farm jobs since June 2008.
The state's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate rose by eight-tenths of a percentage point to 9.2 percent. The national rate increased by one-tenth of a percentage point to 9.5 percent.
