The Bennigan's restaurant at Charleston Town Center Mall has closed for the second time in less than a year.
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The Bennigan's restaurant at Charleston Town Center Mall has closed for the second time in less than a year.
The restaurant, which has operated out of the Town Center since the mall opened in 1983, shut down Sunday night.
The restaurant previously closed without warning in July 2008, after its corporate parent filed bankruptcy, but reopened last October.
Bennigan's owner Rick Rose of Point Pleasant could not be reached for comment Monday.
Rose also owns the Half-Time Bar & Grill at the mall's eastern end. A Half-Time manager said he did not know how to reach Rose. No one answered the phone at Bennigan's Monday.
Mall officials also were unavailable for comment.
Bennigan's employed about 50 people. The 7,100-square-foot restaurant seated 240 people.
Rose also owns a Bennigan's in Point Pleasant. Calls to that restaurant were not answered Monday afternoon.
Restaurants across the U.S. have struggled amid the recession as people have less discretionary income.
In January, Rose's home was destroyed by fire, according to media reports.

Remember you have to walk thru the rain and snow at Southridge from your free parking.
In days gone by, Bennigan’s used to be a happening place; no more.
