CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Four-term state Sen. Mike Oliverio is leaving the state Legislature to challenge U.S. Rep. Alan Mollohan in the Democratic primary this year.
Oliverio planned to announce his candidacy Monday with stops in Parkersburg, Wheeling and Morgantown, where he lives.
The 46-year-old Democrat has served in the Legislature since 1992, when he was first elected to the House of Delegates. He ran unsuccessfully for secretary of state in 2000 and 2004.
Mollohan is looking to win his 15th consecutive term in the U.S. House of Representatives.
At least six Republicans have filed in a bid to win their party's nomination for the election.
