Beta Sigma Phi International Sorority, Charleston City Council will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday for the 79th annual Founder's Day banquet by Crown Catering at the former Old Smoke Shop, 4 Maywood Ave., Clendenin. President Martha Setterstrom will present the program. All members and former members are invited.
West Virginia State University will have "A Conversation with Byron Pitts" at 11 a.m. Friday in the Davis Fine Arts Theater on WVSU campus. Pitts is a multiple Emmy award-winning journalist. As chief national correspondent for the CBS Evening News with Katie Couric, he was an embedded reporter covering the Iraq War and was recognized for his work under fire. Pitts was also CBS' lead correspondent at Ground Zero immediately following the Sept. 11 attacks.
Kanawha County Emergency Ambulance Authority Officer/Planning Committee meeting will be replaced with a Budget and Finance Committee meeting at 11 a.m. Friday in the new training conference room. Raleigh County Republican Executive Committee will have their Lincoln Day Dinner on May 4 at the Beckley-Raleigh County Convention Center. Social hour begins at 6 p.m., followed by dinner at 7 p.m. The public is invited to meet Republican candidates for county commission, House of Delegates, state Senate and Congress. The social hour will feature a silent auction hosted by the Mountaineer Republican Women benefiting numerous local organizations. Tickets are $35 per person and are available at the Christian Book Store, 954 N. Eisenhower near Food Lion, or by phone at 304-763-2743. Tickets must be purchased by Wednesday.
