CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Beginning next week, customers of two Allegheny Power subsidiaries in West Virginia will pay more for electricity.
The state Public Service Commission on Friday approved a $40 million base rate increase for Monongahela Power Co. and Potomac Edison Co. The 4.2 percent increase will go into effect Tuesday.
A typical residential customer who uses 1,000 kilowatts will pay $92.22 a month, up from $88.12.
Monongahela Power and Potomac Edison won't be granted another base rate increase before Sept. 27, 2012.
The rate hike is part of a settlement among the utilities, the PSC's staff and Consumer Advocate Division, Kroger Co., a group of industrial users, the West Virginia Citizens Action Group and the West Virginia Community Action.
