CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Republican John Raese is considering another run for the late Robert C. Byrd's U.S. Senate seat.
The 60-year-old Morgantown businessman told the Charleston Daily Mail he would run on a pro-business, low-tax, low-regulation platform.
Raese unsuccessfully challenged Byrd in 2006 on a similar platform. He says the message resonates more today.
Raese heads Greer Industries, whose businesses include a limestone company, West Virginia Radio Corp. and The Dominion Post. He says he's not intimidated by what he calls "incumbent money,'' referring to Republican Rep. Shelley Moore Capito and Democrat Gov. Joe Manchin.
Capito hasn't decided whether to seek Byrd's seat. Manchin has said it's highly likely he'll run.
