Huntington police warn of fraudulent fundraiser

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Huntington police are looking for people claiming to run a fundraiser on behalf of the department's K-9 Unit.

The scammers have been calling local residents to solicit donations for winter coats for children. The callers have identified themselves as being associated with the Huntington K-9 Association.

Police said neither the Huntington Police Department nor the local FOP lodge is involved in any type of solicitation, nor are they associated with any of the groups or people making the calls. They advised people to be careful to whom they give money or personal financial information.
