WV FREE Action Fund will host a happy-hour social Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Boulevard Tavern, 806 Kanawha Blvd. E. The happy hour will feature drink specials, a prize raffle and a chance to meet new people and learn more about the Action Fund. A minimum $15 donation is requested at the door. Guests receive a WV FREE button and access to the drink special. Raffle tickets are $3 for one or $5 for two and will earn the winner certificates for specialty pizzas and wines. Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge invites artists to gather for a new session from 1 to 3 p.m. Aug. 6 for paint, pencil and other media. Meet at the visitor center and then drive to a site on the refuge for a two-hour session. There will be no formal instruction; however, each participant is encouraged to offer comments and suggestions to other artists. Carol Schimpff, retired architect, Walters Art Museum docent, associate member of the Baltimore Watercolor Society and Refuge volunteer, will organize the sessions. The program is free.
