KEYSER, W.Va. -- The developer of an Eastern Panhandle wind farm says it will likely begin writing grants for community improvement projects when it begins producing power.
U.S. WindForce LLC of Greensburg, Pa., is building the 23-turbine Pinnacle Wind project on Green Mountain in Mineral County.
President Jim Cookman and Chief Executive David Friend say the grants will be distributed through a community foundation, and neither of them will have a say in how the money's spent.
The foundation will have seven to nine members.
Friend says WindForce will give the foundation $50,000 to start with, while another $10,000 will be awarded for historical preservation.
Every subsequent year the wind farm is operating, another $20,000 in grants would be available.
