Police have issued an arrest warrant for a man they believe is involved in a stabbing that left one man dead over the weekend.
"We are obviously concerned and saddened by what has happened," she said. "With the alarming number of incidents that have taken place in the area, they have made a lot of us look at the things we do differently and take safety precautions."
With the recent beatings and muggings in the downtown area, the Lifeway Center has moved their curfew up to ensure residents are inside before it gets too late, Alston said.
Both shelters have a cutoff time, when they will no longer allow someone inside, Hodges said. The night of the stabbing, the Union Mission Crossroads Shelter's cutoff was 7 p.m., but Hodges was unsure what time the Giltinan Center stopped accepting men for the evening.
Regardless, Hodges said neither shelter allows anyone in that has been drinking, which he says Doctor had been doing the night of the stabbing.
Currently, police do not have a picture of Woodson, but Hodges said he is a black male, who is 5-feet-10-inches tall and about 190 pounds.
Alston said Doctor losing his life was "very sad. No matter who it is, it's somebody who is very important to someone. There is a family connection there no matter who it is.
"These men can come and go one time or come and go multiple times, but no matter what, the men that have gone through our program are our family."
The only thing left to do now is be strong, she said. "We have to continue to strive for it to be safer in our community."
Anyone with information about the stabbing or the location of Woodson is asked to call the Charleston Police Department Criminal Investigation Division at 304-348-6480.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Police have issued an arrest warrant for a man they believe is involved in a stabbing that left one man dead over the weekend.
Charleston Police have issued an arrest warrant for first-degree murder for Brian Keith Woodson, aka "Woody", 50, of Charleston, said Sgt. Eric Hodges with the Criminal Investigation Division.
Woodson is believed linked to a stabbing that left Johnnie Doctor, 53, dead. Doctor's body was found near the Roark-Sullivan Lifeway Center's Giltinan Center -- formerly the Charleston men's shelter -- and Union Mission Crossroads Shelter on Leon Sullivan Way early Sunday morning, Hodges said.
Charleston Police were alerted to the stabbing around 3:49 a.m. Sunday. Police responded to the call, but could not locate the body until almost two hours later, when another person called Metro 911 dispatch about the body.
Doctor was unresponsive when police arrived.
Hodges said Woodson is from the Charleston area, but he does have ties out of the county.
"He may have left the county, but we're looking in the places he had previous ties and we're trying to track him down," Hodges said.
Police said Doctor has stayed at the shelters in the past, but he was not staying at either shelter the night of the stabbing.
Julie Alston, co-CEO of the Roark-Sullivan Lifeway Center, which runs the Giltinan Center, wouldn't comment on whether Doctor had stayed at the shelter in the past, citing confidentiality for residents.
"We are obviously concerned and saddened by what has happened," she said. "With the alarming number of incidents that have taken place in the area, they have made a lot of us look at the things we do differently and take safety precautions."
